The advantages of running a small business

Most window tinting operations are still small owner/operated businesses. Although they are more risky than the ones with more people in it, they certainly have some advantages.
Unfortunately, the small operators appear to be the first to offer discounted rates. They are also the ones not making enough profit. Often they would earn more as an employee elsewhere, without the risk of putting up all their worldly belongings for the privilege of owning a liability.

Consider this, your average employee is working standard hours for a standard rate. If they stuff up, it costs the employer money and loss of profit. Although they may get preferential rates from their suppliers, they usually have greater overheads and tend to be less productive than an owner/operator. Money is made on volume. Everybody in window tinting operates during "office hours". Competing for the same slice of the pie. After hours, nobody is available, because they are now tired, worked long enough and so on.

Say you are a car tinter, who is your customer? Is it the dealer or the end consumer, the tradesman, the worker, the student? Ask yourself, when are these people using their cars for business or day-to-day lives? When can they go without their vehicle for an hour or two?

If you are tinting homes or offices, when is it most convenient for them to have the windows tinted? Are you offering to do the work when it suits them or when it suits you? When are the homeowners at home for a quote?

If you offer your services to suit the customer, you are in a position to charge your normal rate, without the need for any discounts. The customer is prepared to pay for the convenience. This could be your "unique selling point", just make sure that you are letting the world know about it!

And then take some time off during the week or start your day later, without feeling guilty, knowing that you are now working smarter for a better return.

Tint Waikato, available weekends too!
