I have tested my new (to me) Toyota Prius windows for light transmission.
I was surprised to see the side glass at 71% VLT (Visible Light Transmission). Tinting it with a 40% VLT film would have taken it to 28%, so I had my back window tinted with a ceramic 50, my favourite window film. Reading the light meter, it came out at exactly 35%, the legal limit in New Zealand.
Hopefully, the rest of the car should be tinted by the end of the week. Both the car tinter and myself are too busy, to have it done in one hit. The back window of the Prius is very easy to tint.
I then looked at the next car that was booked in for tinting, a new BMW. Beware, this glass is also dark; the light meter revealed a similar reading to my Toyota. So the Greystone 40 was put away and replaced with a Greystone 50.
Sad day, to have an expensive, brand new BMW tinted with a dyed film, because the dealer does not want to pay more for the ceramic film. On a $100 + k car? Come on!
I must admit, the Greystone does look good too, although the performance is nowhere near as good as the one on mine.
At Tint Waikato, we don't tint cars, only buildings. For a good car tinter, please call us and we can suggest a good provider in your area.
