Maybe my product is not as good as I just said....

.... this is the message you give, every time you give a discount without a decent reason.

Believe in your product and back yourself.

Just today I had a fellow window tinter in my office, swearing that he will not discount his prices any more, just because he needs the money.
Why has he reached this decision? Because analysing the type of customer who screws the suppliers on price, is usually the one not paying on time, keeps complaining and generally causes problems.

When is the best time to lower prices?

Is it in summer, when you have lots of work, or is it in winter, when there is less?

The obvious answer is summer, so why is no one doing cheaper jobs in summer? Because you don't have to discount, I hear you say.

So why are people doing cheaper jobs, when they are needing the money the most? Surely that's the worst time, and yet you see all these "Winter Specials". And then they get into trouble, because they can't pay their bills!

For a customer it can also be a losing deal, because the supplier may substitute his normal high quality product for a cheaper one. In window tinting, there are many different qualities of film and the customer would be unable to tell them apart at the time of installation. The difference is becoming obvious down the track, when a cheap job can turn into an expensive one!

Removing bad film is costly, risky and time consuming.

And here is another tip: Cheap deals are often cash deals, without receipts. No manufacturer will or is obliged to consider any warranty claims, if the customer is unable to prove the film type or roll number of the window film used.

My suggestion: Do not ask for cash deals, the risk usually exceeds the savings of the moment.
It is usually smaller operators who are offering these deals, knowing that they will not stay in business for the long haul..... more established, larger businesses tend to be less inclined to discount, but will be around to look after you, when you need it. A good choice for your window tinting would be a Master Tinter; because dedication and experience cannot be bought.
