When I first started my own business, I promoted the complete range of tinting, including car tinting. I did the odd car, but soon found that I did not have the passion for this side of the business.
I then contracted a young car tinter to do the work for me. He has an interesting story, worth re-telling here, because his business is a great success story.
As a young 15 or 16 year old, car crazy Kiwi guy, tinting your windows of your success mobile is a must to impress the opposite sex, even if the car is just an old bomb. So he goes to the local car tinter to have his car tinted. The result is far from good, so this young guy tells the tinter that he could have done a better job himself. This dare turned into a job offer.
After a few years working there, and a personal tragedy, he needed to look for another job, but found himself contracting to a number of other flat glass tinters. He already was a good tinter then, but was somewhat hesitant to go more commercial.
Eventually, we ended up sharing premises. His success? Having nothing to show for at the start, the type of cars he drives keep getting more expensive, the houses he lives in are moving into the best areas of town. He now owns two branches, takes annual holidays with his family and enjoys life....... but only after working hard every day.
His secret to success? Work hard, do the best you can, be honest. His early motivator was a dare, it then turned into a passion and today it is the status of being regarded as a success.
I know other people, starting tinting the same time as my friend. They are still struggling, blaming the economy, customers, the weather, the neighbours cat..... whatever sounds good. They don't pay their bills on time, drive old beat up cars, rent a cheap house and so on. These are the same people who do the cheap cash jobs, illegal car tinting, using cheap films.
What is the difference? I can think of two things, pride and passion!
Now, if you're the customer, which one would you be happy giving your money to?
At Tint Waikato, we do not tint cars, just homes and business premises, but we can recommend a few good car tinters.
