Many of these people have now developed melanomas and other skin cancers. Today's children are taught to cover up, use sunscreen and stay out of the sun.
Good quality window films block 99% of the UV over both UVA and UVB spectrum. UV plays also a significant part of fading in furnishings and furniture. Window film cuts out the same amount of UV as laminated glass or some of the clear liquid applications.
Now you know about half of the story. This is what the clear liquid applicators will tell you, if they told you the full story, they would not sell any of their products any more. Usually they will try to put you off the window films, because they might bubble, peel or have joins.
Fading is caused by a combination of UV, heat, light, colour fastness of the dyes, humidity, artificial light and so on. Every material is effected differently by these factors.
A clear UV rejecting layer, be it in the glass or applied on top, is simply not enough to give you good protection. Evidence is abound and supported by glass manufacturer's ratings of different types of glass.
We do remove a lot of the clear applications, because it is not effective enough. Unfortunately the warranties offered with their product is pro-rata, leaving any customer out of pocket.
You can combine fade reduction with heat or glare control, privacy and safety issues. Also, ceramic film is suitable in coastal areas, where traditional films will de-metallise.
So, if you want effective fade protection, open your mind and find out the real facts, rather than fall for half the story.
