Warranties!

Window film is usually supported by a manufacturers warranty, covering issues such as bubbling, peeling, delamination, cracking or crazing. Demetallization is also covered in metallized films. Good quality films should carry a 10-year warranty, with some distributors offering a lifetime warranty. I do have my own views on these, as there are always a number of catches involved. Read the small print.

Some films offer colour stability warranties. From experience, if you have a film with any dye component, you will get a colour change; even metallized films do change over time. We found that ceramics are far more stable, but have only been developed around 9 -10 years ago, so far we have not seen any problems.

Window film cannot guarantee to stop fading of any carpet, ever, full stop! Window tinting will delay and minimise fading. Beware of unsubstantiated promises and claims.

Are you covered by a warranty, if you ask for a cash price? A discounted cash price will only give you protection, if you get a proper GST invoice. (including the trades person's tax number) Don't skimp over a few bucks, it could cost you dearly down the track. At Tint Pro, a cash price is the same as any other payment, giving you full warranty cover.

After the job is done, make sure you keep your invoice (with the batch numbers of the films used) in a safe place, without it, you stand little chance of getting looked after, in the event of a claim. Here is another tip: Small businesses importing their own film very seldom have any manufacturer's backup and you can end up losing it all, if the firm goes out of business.

Workmanship warranties only need to cover you for a year. If the installer does a bad job, leaving air bubbles or dirt behind the film, or leaving excessive gaps, you can see it pretty much within a few days.
