What are the advantages of tinting your windows?

There are many reasons you should consider tinting your windows.

For Kiwis, the main reason should be UV protection. Melanoma and other skin cancers kill over 300 NZ'ers every year. All good quality films block 99% UV. Hiding behind normal or toughened glass offers very little protection. This includes driving in your car!

Another common feature is the ability of the film to hold the glass in place, should it break. Now you cannot confuse this with features of Safety film, which is specially designed to prevent a person from falling through glass.

All the other features are usually up to what your requirements are.

One of the most frequently asked benefits is the ability of the film to reduce fading. See my article on UV & fade.

A growing problem with increased TV and computer use, is the glare. We address this problem by using darker films. Surprisingly, even a lightly tinted film will take the edge off the harshness of a sunny day or a white wall in front of the house. To be most effective, you will need to go darker.

In summer, heat is a big problem. Window films are extremely effective in keeping the heat out. For heat retention in winter, very few films will make a significant difference. What you need to know for now, is that the film will not make your home colder in winter.

Privacy, this is an area, where film is effective during daylight hours only. If you can see out during the day, people can see in at night, when the lights are on. For night-time privacy, you need curtains or blinds. We use frosted films for areas, where you need both day and night time privacy, such as sidelights by front doors, bathrooms, garage or laundry.

Tint Waikato is one of few window tinting businesses in New Zealand specialising in flat glass tinting only. We only use the best films available from a variety of manufacturers.
